Car Trouble

BTW, I'm having a hell of a time replacing the window they broke. No one manufactures glass for my "unique" car anymore, so I'm looking around with junkyards and such.
This is seriously the worst time for my car to start smoking.
Radiator and hoses need to be replaced. Fack.
Happy Holidays, indeed!
Holy crap.
They found it.
Three months after my car was stolen, the SFPD called me today to tell me that they have found my car. I had written it off, thinking that it was in a chop shop somewhere, stripped bare for parts. I was told the license plate had been changed, so that tells me that perhaps it was being driven around?
Hmm. I already accepted the check from my insurance company for the car, so I don't know if I even have the option of getting it back anyway.
My insurance agent made an offer for my now-deemed Total Loss Acura. It was pretty much what I expected, which I felt could get me a decent used car with. I started poring over craigslist, cars.com and the like, in order to find my new ride.
After a few unsuccessful calls, I started getting a tad anxious that I couldn't find anything decent. I lowered my standards a little, thinking that as long as it was in good operating condition, I was fine with it... body damage, whatever.
But my dad wouldn't hear anything of it. "You're not getting a car with body damage!" He decreed. So he started helping me on my search. Yesterday, on his way to a used car lot, he saw a car on the side of the road that was for sale. It was "kinda funny lookin'" and somewhat old (1993) but it looked decent. He snapped a few pix with his camphone and sent them onto me (ah, Dad embracing technology, I love it).
Within a few hours, I had a new [old] car.
It's a quirky little thing, a 1993 Plymouth Colt hatchback, with three doors. Weird! The third door on the passenger side opens like a van door, sliding to the left. I have hereby dubbed it my NanoVan, because it's not quite a van, not quite a compact car. For a small car, it has an amazing amount of room. The only problems? The condenser (A/C) needs to be replaced, and the passenger side door in the front doesn't open with the key... but these are minor things. I do miss a lot of things about my old car (power everything, stereo, its small size, etc.), but I feel I just need to go through this period of adjustment.
The best part? It only has 88k miles on it (I checked its record, it's clean), and it only set me back $800. So I can save the balance of the insurance money. w00t!
Thanks to everyone who responded to my last post about my car being stolen. It was certainly a shock, but I got over that pretty quickly and haven't been stressing about it.
I have these "OMG" moments every once in a while, but it's nothing major. It's just realizing that I don't have my wheels and it really breaks up my everyday routine. I was able to get a rental car through my insurance company, which is costing me $4 a day, but it's not MY car. What kinda sucks is that I took the car fresh from another renter (the rental company didn't have a car when I arrived, making me wait, and I had to rush off to an appointment as soon as the car came in), who left the gas tank half full and the car pretty filthy, inside and out. Eh, I guess it could be worse. What can ya do for a free (or close to free) car...
I am actually hoping at this point that they don't find it, because I'm sure it would be stripped and rebuilding would be a bitch. Thirty days will be when they consider it *really* gone, and I will (hopefully) get a check to help towards a new car.
Tomorrow, I get an offer from my insurance agent. Hopefully, it'll be good...
Was in a good mood, woke up early, had breakfast and headed out the door to work on time.
But wait, where's my car? It's not in its parking spot in the garage...
FUCK.
